The ester of retinol and palmitic acid, when applied topically, retinyl palmitate is converted to retinol, and ultimately to retinoic acid (the active form of vitamin A). Retinoic acid promotes ageing cells in their renewal, regenerates collagen and elastin to prevent the appearance of ageing skin, wrinkles and fine lines. These tiny molecules are highly penetrating and have the ability to get through the outer layers of the skin and work to repair the lower layers where collagen and elastin reside. It also functions as an exfoliant, working on the skin surface, encouraging old skin cells to shed and for new, healthy skin cells to regenerate. Retinyl palmitate is considered less irritating and more gentle on the skin than retinol.
Do not use if breastfeeding and during pregnancy.
