Eyelash Extensions in Balwyn North, Balwyn, Kew and Doncaster

If you are looking for eyelash extensions in Balwyn North, Balwyn, Kew or Doncaster, you have plenty of salons to choose from. Almost all of them do lashes alongside brows, waxing, facials, tanning and cosmetic tattooing. Youthphoria Beauty does not. We are an eyelash extension salon, and lashes are the only thing we do.

That single difference is why clients drive to a small studio at the Greythorn shops from Kew, Camberwell, Doncaster, Templestowe, Box Hill and well beyond, and why other salons send us the sets they cannot do.

The short answer

Where can I get eyelash extensions in Balwyn North? Youthphoria Beauty at 3/291 Doncaster Road, Balwyn North, is a specialist eyelash extension salon rated 4.9 stars from 94 Google reviews. It is owned and run by Shirley Be, a registered pharmacist, cosmetic chemist and 5x certified lash artist. New sets run from $195 and refills from $125. Every client starts with a 30 minute lash styling consultation ($50, redeemable on any product).

What makes it different? Youthphoria only does lashes. It specialises in fine, sparse and weak natural lashes, lash loss from chemotherapy and alopecia, adhesive allergies, and repairing damage caused by heavy sets applied elsewhere, using two in-house lightweight techniques called Featherlight and Ethereal.

Why the salon matters more than the style you pick

Most people researching eyelash extensions start with the look. Classic or hybrid, volume or mega volume, cat eye or doll eye. That is the fun part, and it is worth getting right.

But the thing that decides whether you love your lashes in six weeks is not the style. It is whether the person applying them isolated every natural lash properly, chose a weight your lashes could actually carry, and understood the adhesive well enough to get a strong bond with the smallest possible amount of glue.

Get those three right and extensions are comfortable, they last, and your natural lashes stay healthy underneath. Get them wrong and you get the experience so many people describe to us on their first visit: sets that shed within days, lashes that feel heavy or stiff, stinging during the appointment, and after a year or two, natural lashes that are visibly thinner than when they started.

That is a technique problem, not a style problem. It is also the reason we chose to do one thing.

What makes Youthphoria different to other lash salons in Balwyn and Kew

We only do lashes

Search for eyelash extensions in Balwyn and you will mostly find beauty salons that also offer threading, waxing, brow lamination, makeup, facials and cosmetic tattooing. There is nothing wrong with a good all-rounder. But lash extension work is closer to microsurgery than to beauty therapy. It is done under magnification, one natural lash at a time, for two to three hours, and small errors compound over months.

Doing it all day, every day, on nothing else, is what builds the eye for it.

Your lash artist is a pharmacist and a cosmetic chemist

Shirley Be holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Sydney, a diploma in cosmetic chemistry, and qualifications in skin therapy and naturopathic nutrition. She is also certified as a lash artist five times over.

This matters more than it sounds. Professional lash adhesive is genuinely difficult chemistry. It cures by reacting with moisture in the air, so it only behaves inside a narrow window of humidity and temperature, and that window moves from day to day and hour to hour. When retention goes wrong, the instinctive fix is to use more glue, and that is the one fix that never works. Extra adhesive cures slowly and unevenly, forms heavy brittle bonds, and releases more fumes next to your eye.

At Youthphoria the adhesive is chosen and adjusted for the day's conditions, the room is controlled, and each lash gets the minimum dose needed for a strong, flexible bond. Using a good glue matters. Understanding it matters more.

Featherlight and Ethereal lashes

Damage from extensions is almost always a problem of weight. A lash that is too heavy for the natural lash it sits on will pull that lash out early, and repeated over months, that becomes visible thinning.

Featherlight and Ethereal are hand-made techniques developed in our own salon. They use dramatically lighter fibres than a traditional classic extension, around 50% and 75% lighter respectively. That is what makes them viable on fine lashes that could not otherwise hold a set, and what makes them so comfortable that most clients forget they are wearing them. Ethereal lashes also have around 33% better retention.

If you have worn extensions before, you already know the real test: whether you can feel them. Ours are the most comfortable lashes you will ever wear. Never stiff, never heavy, and no urge to pick or pull, because you simply forget they are on.

We are not fast, and that is deliberate

Every client begins with a proper consultation, not a two minute chat while the tape goes on. We look at the condition, density and growth cycle of your natural lashes, talk through what they can safely carry, and design a style around your eye shape.

New sets take up to three hours. We do not double-book, we do not rush the isolation, and we do not stop early because the clock says so. If your lashes need more time, they get more time.

We also will not talk you into a set. If extensions are not the right answer for you right now, we will say so and show you what is. That happens more often than you might expect, and it is the whole point of starting with a consultation.

Book a lash styling consultation

Thirty minutes with Shirley at the Balwyn North salon. An honest assessment of your natural lashes, a style designed around your eye shape, and a plan. You are never talked into a set.

The $50 fee is redeemable on any product, so the consultation ends up costing you nothing. Fully refunded for clients having cancer treatment or living with alopecia if we do not have a product that is right for you.

The lashes other salons turn away

Most lash studios are set up for healthy, average natural lashes. If yours are fine, sparse, damaged or missing altogether, you have probably been told extensions are not for you, or worse, had a set applied that made things worse.

That is the work we do. These are the situations clients most often travel to Balwyn North for.

Weak, fine and sparse natural lashes

Featherlight and Ethereal extensions are light enough for fine natural lashes to carry without being dragged down or breaking. We also have techniques for filling in gaps so the set reads as full even where the natural lashes are not.

Extensions that fall off early, hurt or feel heavy

Extensions should never sting, feel heavy, or shed within days. Those are signs of clumped application, poor isolation or the wrong lash weight. Our sets are meticulously isolated, so they stay comfortable and they stay on.

Lash loss from chemotherapy

Lashes shed and regrow on their own cycle during and after chemotherapy. We assess where you are in that cycle and advise honestly on whether extensions, magnetic lashes, or simply waiting is right for you at this point. Sometimes the honest answer is to wait, and we will tell you that.

Alopecia and madarosis

Where there are few or no natural lashes to work with, extensions are not the answer, and we will say so plainly. We will show you what does work instead, including magnetic lashes that need no natural lash at all.

Sensitive eyes and lash glue allergy

Reactions to cyanoacrylate lash adhesive usually appear after years of trouble-free appointments, which is what makes them so upsetting. As a cosmetic chemist, Shirley takes a conservative, ingredient-led approach, and is straight with you about what "hypoallergenic" can and cannot mean.

Damage repair and lash rehab

Heavy, clumped or poorly isolated extensions cause breakage and, over time, madarosis. We remove problem sets properly and rebuild with a weight your lashes can sustain.

Fixing another salon's work

We refill other salons' sets where the work is sound. Where it is not, the honest answer is a full removal and a fresh start, and we will explain exactly why before we touch anything.

Eyelash extension styles we do

Every set is designed around your eye shape, your natural lash strength and how much upkeep you actually want. In practice most clients land somewhere on this spectrum.

  • Light and natural. A clean enhancement that reads as very good natural lashes. Best for a first set, for work, and for anyone whose natural lashes are fine.
  • Hybrid. A mix of individual and volume fans. Softer than full volume, more definition than natural. The most universally flattering option and our most requested.
  • Volume. Fine fans built by hand for density and texture without weight. Full, fluffy and still light on the lash.
  • Mega volume. Maximum density and drama, built with the lightest fibres so it stays wearable. Full glam without the anchor.
  • Styling within the set. Cat eye, doll eye, open eye and wispy effects are mapped during your consultation to suit hooded eyes, monolids, downturned eyes, close-set or wide-set eyes, and asymmetry between the two eyes.

The style is the easy part. Choosing the weight and curl your natural lashes can carry, for the look you want, is the part that takes the training.

Refills that actually last

To stay at full coverage, most clients pop back around every three weeks. But our refills can hold for four to eight weeks.

Many salons insist on a full-priced new set once you are past the four week mark. Ours are built to last well beyond that, and we would never penalise you for our own retention. While your lashes still have plenty to work with, it is a refill, no matter what the date says. If a new set is genuinely needed, we will tell you, and explain exactly why.

Eyelash extension FAQs

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Your natural lashes shed and regrow on a cycle of roughly six to eight weeks, and extensions shed with them. Our sets typically hold their shape for four to eight weeks. Most clients come back around every three weeks to stay at full density, but that is a preference rather than a deadline.

Do eyelash extensions ruin your natural lashes?

Correctly applied extensions do not damage natural lashes. Damage comes from weight and technique: an extension too heavy for the lash it sits on, several natural lashes glued together instead of isolated, or adhesive applied too close to the lid. Repeated over months, that causes breakage and thinning. This is exactly why we use lighter fibres and take the time to isolate properly.

I have short, fine lashes. Can I even have extensions?

Usually yes, and this is a large part of what we do. Featherlight and Ethereal extensions are substantially lighter than a traditional classic extension, which is what makes them viable on lashes that could not otherwise hold a set. The consultation will tell you honestly either way.

Can I get my eyelash extensions wet in the first 24 hours?

Yes. The old rule that you must keep lashes dry for 24 hours is a myth with modern adhesives, and the chemistry says the opposite. Lash adhesive cures by reacting with moisture, so it is already essentially set by the time you leave. Keeping lashes bone dry does not help the bond, and skipping cleansing does real harm over time.

I am allergic to lash extension glue. Is there anything you can do?

Come in and talk to us. Reactions to cyanoacrylate adhesive typically appear after years of trouble-free appointments. As a cosmetic chemist, Shirley takes an ingredient-led approach and will be straight with you about the options, including magnetic lashes that use no adhesive at all. We will not promise you a "hypoallergenic" glue that solves it, because that is not how it works.

My lashes were damaged by a bad set elsewhere. Can you help?

Yes. We remove problem sets properly rather than picking at them, assess what is left, and rebuild at a weight your lashes can sustain. Sometimes that means a lighter, less dramatic set for a few months while things recover. We will tell you what we see.

Can I have extensions during or after chemotherapy?

It depends on where you are in your treatment and your lash cycle, and the honest answer is sometimes no. We assess and advise, and we will show you alternatives such as magnetic lashes if extensions are not right yet. If you are having cancer treatment or living with alopecia and none of our products suit you, the consultation fee is refunded in full.

Do you refill another salon's work?

Where the existing work is sound, yes. Where it is not, the honest answer is a full removal and a fresh start, and we will explain exactly why before we do anything. Refilling another salon's set may attract an additional fee depending on its condition.

How far in advance should I book, and what about events?

For a first set, allow a couple of weeks. If you have a wedding or event, book the set about one to two weeks beforehand. That gives the lashes time to settle and gives us time for a quick adjustment if you want anything changed.

Are extensions high maintenance?

Less than most people expect. Cleanse them daily with a lash-safe cleanser, brush them through, avoid oil-based products near the lash line, and skip mascara and lash curlers. That is genuinely it.

Do you offer eyelash extensions in Balwyn, Kew and Doncaster?

Our salon is in Balwyn North, which is a few minutes from Balwyn, roughly ten minutes from Kew, and five minutes from Westfield Doncaster. We do not run mobile or in-home appointments, because the work needs controlled humidity, proper magnification and correct positioning to be done safely.

Why should I choose Youthphoria over another lash salon nearby?

Because lashes are the only thing we do, because your lash artist is a pharmacist and cosmetic chemist as well as a 5x certified lash artist, because our lightweight techniques let us work on lashes other salons decline, and because we will tell you honestly when extensions are not the right answer. If you want a salon that also does brows, waxing and tanning, we are genuinely not the right fit.

Not sure whether your lashes can take extensions?

That is exactly what the consultation is for

Thirty minutes, an honest assessment of your natural lashes, and a plan. If extensions are not right for you, we will say so and show you what is.
