How to Repair Lashes Damaged by Extensions
- Extensions can weaken natural lashes through traction (weight and tension), adhesive stress, and never letting the lash line rest.1
- Most lashes recover once the stress is removed. Because lashes grow in cycles, allow one to three months.2
- A prostaglandin-free serum supports regrowth, and glue-free magnetic lashes give fullness with no tension on fragile lashes.
Extensions look beautiful, but the weight of each extension, the adhesive, and constant infills can leave your own lashes short, sparse, and brittle. This guide, written with input from our founder, a qualified pharmacist and cosmetic chemist, explains how the damage happens and how to nurse your lashes back to health.
🔬 How do extensions damage your natural lashes?
Extensions are bonded with a cyanoacrylate adhesive to each individual natural lash. Several mechanisms can cause damage:
- Weight and traction. An extension heavier or longer than your natural lash pulls on the follicle. Sustained tension is a form of traction alopecia, and with heavier lashes this can develop within a few months of use.1
- Adhesive stress and removal. Strong glue, and picking or pulling at extensions, snaps lashes mid-shaft and can irritate the eye.3
- Interrupted cycles. Constant infills mean the lash line rarely rests.
1️⃣ Give your lashes a rest
The single most helpful thing is a break from extensions so the follicles are not carrying weight or adhesive. Be gentle: avoid rubbing your eyes, skip waterproof mascara that needs harsh removal, and cleanse softly with our Micellar Foam Cleanser and Makeup Remover. 2️⃣ Support regrowth with a gentle serum
A nourishing serum helps create a healthy environment for stronger lashes. Our Eyelash Growth and Repair Serum is made in Australia and prostaglandin-free, using peptides, panthenol, vitamins, antioxidants, and botanicals to condition and repair lashes damaged by salon extensions. It is gentle enough for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers and is even compatible with extensions if you are not ready to give them up. Apply a thin line once nightly, with visible results from around 30 days.
3️⃣ Enjoy full lashes in the meantime
You do not have to go without lashes while yours recover. Glue-free magnetic lashes give a full look with no adhesive and no tension:
- They bond to a magnetic eyeliner, not your natural lashes, so there is no pulling or weight on fragile lashes.
- Reusable and gentle to remove, with no picking that could snap recovering lashes.
- Softest choices: the Sirius and Stellar invisible magnetic lashes, or the classic Serena.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Do lashes grow back after extensions?
In most cases yes, because the follicle usually stays healthy. After a break and gentle care, lashes typically regrow over one to three months.2
What is the best serum to repair lashes after extensions?
A gentle, prostaglandin-free serum that conditions and supports growth. Ours is designed to repair and strengthen lashes and is compatible with extensions.
How long does it take to repair lashes after extensions?
Because lashes grow in cycles, most people see meaningful recovery over one to three months of rest and gentle care.2
Can I wear lashes while my natural lashes recover?
Yes. Glue-free magnetic lashes attach to a magnetic liner rather than your lashes, so there is no tension on the recovering lash line.
